3 things for Wednesday, Chicago:
ONION OR MOTHER JONES? Guess whose headline this is: "Idaho Lawmaker Promotes Bold New Plan to Elect Romney."
* Media critic Jack Shafer on a fake news release that made it onto Web sites of the AP, Business Insider, Forbes, Techcrunch and others: "It identifies the outlets and journalists who were too lazy to make the single phone call that would have defused the joke. I consider that a real public service."
MAP MESSED. One of the managers who oversaw Apple's troubled new maps app for the iPhone has been shown the way to the door.
* Google's Street View gets its northernmost images -- from a location featured prominently in the "Dark Materials" ("Golden Compass") series
SCROOGING AROUND. Roger Ebert's review of the new filmed-in-Chicago movie "Scrooge & Marley" recalls a day spent on the movie's set as part of a "Job for a Day" report. (Photo credit: Hal Baim)

"journalists who were too lazy to make the single phone call"
There seem to be more of those these days than any other kind. You know, the "somesay" journalists who just repeat what others say. They have an entire TV network.
